How it works
Intercom helps teams manage customer conversations and support. Connect it to bring customer details and support history into your business system. App visitors don’t need their own Intercom accounts; your app uses the workspace connection you approve. By connecting Intercom, you can:- Search and display contacts
- Create contacts for new customers
- List and open support conversations
- Create a conversation from a customer request
- Work with tickets available to the connection
How to integrate Intercom into your app
1
Connect to Intercom
Ask Zite to connect your app to Intercom in the chat box. Alternatively, click +, select Integrations, then choose Intercom.Sign in to Intercom, choose the workspace you want to use, and approve the requested access.
2
Describe your use case
Tell Zite which customer details and conversations your team needs. For example, “Build a support dashboard where we can find a customer by email and see their recent conversations.”If the app creates a request, specify which customer it belongs to and what information to include.
3
Test and publish
Look up a known contact and compare the conversation history with Intercom. If the app creates support requests, send one sample request and check its customer, content, and destination.Click Publish in the upper-right corner to make the Intercom features available in your live app.
Common use cases
With an Intercom connection, you can create apps like:- Customer Lookup: Find a contact and their support history.
- Support Dashboards: Review conversations in a team workspace.
- Request Forms: Create a conversation from a customer’s request.
- Ticket Views: Show the ticket information your team can access.
Important notes
- Workspace permissions: The connection’s approved access determines which data and actions your app can use.
- Customer matching: Ask Zite to find an existing contact before creating one, and attach requests to the correct customer.
- Real requests: Test messages can create real Intercom conversations. Use a sample contact and check the result before repeating a send.
- Message formatting: Check how a test message appears in Intercom, including links, lists, and line breaks.
- Separate setup: Connecting Intercom data does not automatically install its chat widget or configure Fin. This connection does not provide access to manage Fin’s AI content.
