How it works

Linear is a tool for tracking issues and planning projects. Connect Linear to your Zite app to build tools for reporting issues and tracking progress. App visitors don’t need their own Linear accounts; your app uses the account you connect. By connecting Linear, you can:
  • Create issues from forms or actions in your app
  • Find and display issues by team
  • Update an issue’s status and assignee
  • Look up the teams in your workspace
  • Build dashboards that show issue progress

How to integrate Linear into your app

1

Connect to Linear

Ask Zite to connect your app to Linear in the chat box. Alternatively, click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose Linear.Sign in to your Linear account and approve read and write access to your workspace.
2

Describe your use case

Tell Zite how you want to use Linear in your app. For example, “Build a bug report form that creates an issue in our Engineering team” or “Show all open issues for the Support team with filters for status and assignee.”Zite can look up the teams available to your connection. Tell it which team to use and what information your app should show or collect.
3

Test and publish

Submit a sample issue and check its team in Linear. Try a status or assignee change, then confirm that each app role sees only the intended issues.Click Publish in the upper right corner when the workflow works as expected.

Common use cases

With a Linear connection, you can create apps like:
  • Bug Report Forms: Let customers or colleagues report bugs that become Linear issues
  • Feature Request Portals: Collect feature ideas and send them to the right team
  • Progress Dashboards: Show how many issues are open, in progress, or done
  • Issue Boards: List issues with filters for status and owner
  • Triage Tools: Let a lead review new issues and assign them to the right person

Important notes

  • Account access: Your app acts through the Linear account you connect. It can only see and change issues that account can access. Choose who can use your app with that in mind.
  • Teams: Tell Zite which team to use, especially if several teams have similar names.
  • Statuses: Each Linear team has its own set of statuses. Tell Zite which status to use when your app moves an issue.
  • Staying connected: Zite keeps your Linear connection signed in automatically. If your app reports that Linear is disconnected, reconnect it.
