How it works
Jira is Atlassian’s tool for tracking work and managing projects. Connect Jira Cloud to your Zite app to find issues, create tickets, add comments, and update their status. App visitors don’t need to connect their own Atlassian accounts—your app uses the account you connect. By connecting Jira, you can:- Find and display issues by project, status, assignee, or other criteria
- Create new issues in projects where the connected account has permission
- Add comments to issues
- Move issues through the steps in their existing Jira workflows
- Build custom dashboards and views of Jira data
How to integrate Jira into your app
1
Connect to Jira
Ask Zite to connect your app to Jira in the chat box. Alternatively, click + in the chat box, select Integrations, then choose Jira.Sign in to your Atlassian account, choose the Jira Cloud site you want to connect, and approve the requested access.
2
Describe your use case
Tell Zite how you want to use Jira in your app. For example, “Show all open issues in our support project” or “Let users create bug reports.”Zite can look up the projects and fields available to your connection. Tell it which project you want to use and what information your app should show or collect.
3
Test and publish
Test the Jira features in your app to make sure everything works as expected.Click
Publish in the upper right corner to deploy your changes and make the Jira integration available in your live app.Common use cases
With a Jira connection, you can create apps like:- Issue Dashboards: Display and filter issues from one or more projects in custom views
- Support Portals: Let customers submit and track bug reports or feature requests
- Project Trackers: Show team progress, issue status, and assignments
- Workflow Automation: Automatically create or update Jira issues based on app events
- Custom Reports: Build specialized views of Jira data tailored to your team’s needs
Important notes
- Jira Cloud only: This connection is for Atlassian’s hosted Jira Cloud service, rather than a self-hosted Jira installation.
- Account access: Your app acts through the Atlassian account you connect. It can only view issues and make changes that account is allowed to access. Choose who can use your app with those permissions in mind.
- Project fields: Each Jira project may require different information when creating an issue. Tell Zite what you want to collect; it can look up the field details for you.
- Issue status: Your app can move an issue only to statuses allowed by its current Jira workflow. Connecting Jira doesn’t give your app permission to redesign those workflows.
- Usage limits: Jira may temporarily limit requests when your app is busy. If this happens, wait before trying again. For recurring problems, ask Zite to reduce how often your app checks Jira.
