Getting Started

Zite is an AI app builder for creating business software. Describe what your business needs, and Zite can create a project with one or more apps, forms, a shared database with permissions, code, and history. Apps can include workflows for automation and integrations.
A workspace is the home of your project. It’s the container for building in Zite. It includes a database and one or more apps or forms. You can also manage members and roles from the Workspace home.
From the Zite editor, describe the business process or system you want to build. Zite can create the app experience and the data structure behind it, then you can add more apps and forms, build workflows inside apps, and configure database roles and integrations as the project grows. Yes. You can describe several apps in the same prompt, such as a public booking app for customers and an internal dashboard for your team. Zite will place the apps in the same project so they can work around shared data.
No. Zite is built for both technical and non-technical users. You can rely on AI, use the visual editor, inspect the code, or run the project locally if you prefer a more technical workflow.

Building with Zite

Zite is best for business systems where internal apps, public apps, forms, and shared data need to work together. Apps can include workflows, and the shared database can enforce permissions. Common examples include CRMs, client portals, dashboards, approval tools, inventory systems, onboarding flows, and support request systems. Learn more in What can I build?.

  • Describe the business process you want to support
  • Name the people who will use each app, portal, form, or dashboard
  • Include the data you need to track, such as customers, bookings, rooms, requests, or orders
  • Mention database permissions, login, app workflows, integrations, and emails if they matter
  • Build in small steps when you are refining an existing project
This is not currently supported. All AI usage is provided through Zite and included in your plan limits.However, you can connect your own OpenAI API key to create apps that use AI with the Zite OpenAI integration.
  • Use the built-in “fix it for me” option if an error occurs (this is free and won’t use credits)
  • Switch to chat mode to ask Zite what’s going wrong without making changes
  • Rephrase your request with more detail
  • Restore to a previous working version if needed
When Zite creates a project from your prompt, it provisions a shared Zite Database behind the app or apps it builds. That database stores the records your apps, forms, and portals use. You can also connect existing data from Airtable, Google Sheets, or other tools when you already have a source of truth elsewhere.
Yes. A single Zite Database can power multiple internal apps, public apps, forms, portals, and dashboards so the project stays in sync.
Yes. You can create manual backups of your Zite Database and restore from them later. You can also use point-in-time restore to pick a recent moment and roll the database back to that state. Learn more in Backup and Restore.
Workflows are backend logic inside apps. They can read and write data, send emails or Slack messages, call APIs, run AI operations, and trigger follow-up steps from app actions. Zite creates workflows automatically based on your prompts. Learn more in the Workflows guide.
Disconnect your current database in the same popup when you first connected it. Then, reconnect to your preferred one.

Features

Yes. These options are available from the home dashboard here. You can star a project to pin it to the top of your Home dashboard, duplicate it to create a separate copy, or delete it when you no longer need it.
Yes. Invite teammates to your workspace or project to build together, manage access, and share context with internal notes. Learn more about inviting collaborators and managing workspaces.
Yes. You can manage project members, roles, app access, authentication, and data permissions. Data permissions can control who can view, create, edit, or delete records in database tables.
Internal apps are intended for your team, such as admin dashboards, approval queues, and CRM views. Public apps are shared externally, such as customer portals, booking flows, and partner tools.
Click Publish on the top right corner to push your latest changes live. You can add a custom domain or use the default Zite link.
There is no limit to the number of apps you can build on any plan. A single project can also contain multiple apps around the same shared data.
There is no limit to the number of users or visitors your apps can have.
Yes. Zite projects use a monorepo structure where multiple apps and shared packages live together in one file tree. You can inspect the project from Code view.
Yes. Zite keeps a Git-backed history of meaningful project changes, so you can review what changed, connect updates back to prompts or agent actions, and return to an earlier working state.
Yes. Zite branding is removed on any paid plan.

Publishing and access

Yes. You can turn off Share to web any time if you want to take a published app or website offline.
Yes, Zite apps are mobile-friendly and automatically adapt to different screen sizes. You can also configure Mobile settings so users can add your app to their phone’s home screen.
You can enable login authentication to restrict access, so only users with approved credentials can view an app, portal, or dashboard.
Yes. You can connect your own domain to any published Zite project. You can connect an unlimited number of domains if you’re on the Zite Business plan.
Yes, Pro and Business users can purchase up to 3 domains, at a total cost of $15 per year.
Not yet, domains bought through Zite can only connect to your published Zite app or website. For DNS changes or email, use an external domain.

Managing Your Account

Yes. Zite pricing covers the usage-based features in your Zite workspace, like building projects with AI, the database agent, AI fields, and sending emails from your apps. The free plan is available to all Fillout users, and you can purchase a Zite plan to unlock more.View pricing details and manage your subscription here.
Credits power the usage-based features in your Zite workspace: building and modifying projects with AI, the database agent, AI fields in databases, and sending emails from your apps.Credit usage on AI features varies based on the complexity of your request—simpler changes use fewer credits, more complex ones use more. Selective edits (like changing text or colors directly) don’t use any credits.There is no credit charge for users visiting your published apps—only for the work you and your apps do.Check your current credit usage in Billing & Usage. Apps use workflows to interact with databases and third-party systems. Each workflow execution counts as one run. Workflow runs in the editor aren’t tracked—only runs from your published apps count toward your monthly limit.If you go over your limit, your apps will continue to run for your users—but you won’t be able to publish edits until you upgrade your plan or your monthly limits renew.Learn more in Workflow runs and your monthly limit.
When you upgrade to a higher plan during a billing cycle, your total credit limit is set to the new plan’s limit for that cycle.For example, if you’ve used 40 credits on a 50-credit plan and upgrade to a 100-credit plan, your cycle limit becomes 100 credits and you’ll have 60 credits remaining until your next billing cycle starts.Note: Upgrading from one plan to another does not give you additional credits beyond the total new limit. For example, moving from 100 to 200 credits means your new cycle limit is 200, not that you have an extra 200 credits.
Upgrade to a higher-tier plan to get a higher credit limit for the current billing cycle. Each plan offers progressively higher credit limits.If you downgrade to the free plan after your app is built, Zite branding will reappear on your app.
Your admin may have set a personal credit limit on your account. Ask them to raise it, or wait for the next billing period, when spend resets. Admins can adjust limits from Billing & usage — see AI credit limits.
No. Credits reset every month at the exact time of subscription, and unused monthly credits do not roll over. Annual plans are billed once per year, but their credits still refresh monthly on the original subscription day and time.
Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, you’ll continue to have access to your current plan until the end of your billing period.
Not yet, but we’re considering special pricing for educational institutions and non-profit organizations in the future.

Troubleshooting

Try these steps:
Open the workflow and click the History tab to see all past runs. You can view the inputs, outputs, and each step to identify what went wrong. You can also ask Zite “Why is my workflow failing?” and it can analyze the logs for you. Learn more in the Workflow run history guide.
Verify that:
  • Your DNS records are correctly configured
  • SSL certificate has been generated (this can take up to 24 hours)
  • The domain is properly connected in your project settings
